I’m sure we’ve all been in the same spot, fumbling around trying to do something with not enough light? Joby has answered our calls; the recently introduced Gorillatorch Blade sports a 130 lumen flashlight with its own set of rubberized grip legs. My initial reaction when opening the package was just how durable this thing felt right off the bat. I mean it’s solid from the flashlight right down to its rubberized grip legs.
The Blades 130 lumen Cree LED has a variable throw size with a twist of the flashlight which makes it useful in many situations whether it’s a distance object your trying to focus on or just a dark pathway. One thing that really sets this pod away from some of the others I’ve used is the magnetic feet, which really comes in handy all around the house, I mean fixing your car, power outages and my personal favourite is BBQ’ing in the dark. With an average battery life of 6.5 hours on the low settings and 2.5 hours on the high settings it’s more than enough for the average user. With a simple plug into a wall outlet or any USB port it will be charged up and ready in no time for its next use.
Lastly one of the more innovative things about this light is that the flashlight is actually removable so if you just need to take it off the legs for a quick moment without wanting to detach them from wherever you may have it setup, it’s very simple. With a quick squeeze of the clip the flashlight slides right out. In the end this is an irreplaceable tool in anyone’s bag whether it’s for photography, hiking, camping or just as a handy tool.
Here is a sample image of a Green Tree Frog light with just the light from a flashlight, no external flash etc. Shows what can be done with such a simple device.
